In what appears to be a move going against the norm, MCA Youth legal bureau chief Ng Kian Nam has described the newly-passed National Security Council Bill 2015 as akin to creating a dictatorship.
"It shouldn't appear in a civilised society that prioritises democracy in the first place," Ng added in a statement today.
He also expressed concern that the NSC bill could be abused by those in power, especially in such politically troubling times.
"Given the involvement of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in 1MDB and RM2.6 billion scandal, and that the investigations have not been concluded, it is worrying that the bill could be abused to protect personal political agenda instead of national interest," he said.

"The NSC bill has worsened the situation, stripping away more civic and judiciary rights, including the rights of autopsy for a deceased," he added.
As such he urged for the federal constitution to be amended, following the passing of the controversial bill.
He suggested that the amendment ensure that any bill which could potentially infringe on the people's basic freedoms, must have a two-thirds majority to pass in Parliament. This is in contrast to the simple majority currently needed.
'Get rid of BN'
Meanwhile, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu has said that the solution to getting rid of this "draconian" bill is to end the rule of BN.
"The Umno/BN government is weak after the 13th general election, and now are trying to defend their rule through their authoritarian methods. I urge that we end the rule of this government.
"If the new rulers also behave similarly, then the rakyat can use their power to change the rulers again," he said.
The NSC bill was tabled on Tuesday and pushed through Parliament on Thursday, the last day of sitting for this year.
The new bill gives the National Security Council the power to declare a place a 'security area' and security forces can step in to arrest and make seizures without warrants.
In decrying the NSC bill, senior lawyer and Human Rights Society (Hakam) president Ambiga Sreenevasan said it would 'unleash a monster' while Lawyers for Liberty feared it would herald a dictatorship.
