Pandikar slammed after threat to 'boycott DAP MPs'

In a vicious cycle of resignation urgings, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang has called for Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia’s head after the speaker threatened to boycott two DAP lawmakers.

Kit Siang was responding to Pandikar’s remarks reported on the portal of the BN Backbenchers’ Council (BNBBC), in which the speaker slammed Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng and Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik for asking him to resign for not implementing parliamentary reforms.

Pandikar said he would ignore the duo if they themselves did not step down as MPs in the event that House reforms are implemented in the next session.

“A speaker who have descended to this level of personal animosity towards MPs should resign as speaker as clearly he could not function efficiently and competently as an independent and impartial speaker.

“He may personally hate the guts of Lip Eng and Ng, and cannot stand the sight of these two MPs, but he must not allow his personal prejudices and likes or dislikes to influence his role and responsibility as parliament speaker,” Kit Siang said in a statement today

The Gelang Patah MP said he hoped that Pandikar would come to his senses and not tarnish the position of House speaker.

On Thursday, the last day of parliament this year, Lip Eng and Ng had urged Pandikar’s resignation for failing to implement House reforms.

This was after Pandikar said he would implement changes in the Dewan Rakyat, including to introduce a ministerial question time.

In response to Lip Eng and Ng, Pandikar in an interview with BNBBC challenged the duo to resign if parliamentary reforms were implemented in the early sessions next year.

If they did not resign, Pandikar said he would not entertain either of them when they get up in the House and will not invite them to speak.
