YOURSAY | ‘Najib closed down The Edge, sacked the DPM, a federal minister, the AG…’

Musa Hitam: Dr M didn't silence me when we quarrelled

Hamzah Paiman: Former DPM Musa Hitam, are you living in Fantasyland? Yes, Dr Mahathir Mohamad didn't silence you but he closed down publications such as The Star, Watan, Sin Chew , etc.

He sacked the Lord President and Supreme Court judges who were not in line with him. He hauled up all the opposition MPs and detained them without trial under Ops Lalang. He sacked and jailed his deputy, Anwar Ibrahim, over some frivolous charges.

Are these democratic acts? At least, PM Najib Abdul Razak has not even done a fraction of these. He has been reasonably fair to dissenters.

Spinnot: Hamzah Paiman, Najib also closed down The Edge , sacked the deputy prime minister, a federal minister, the attorney-general (AG), transferred/sacked Special Branch senior officers, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officers, etc, and jailed Anwar again over some frivolous charges.

Abasir: In the case of Musa and Mahathir, it was only a difference of opinion between the duo. There was, at that point in time, nothing scandalous to hide and for Musa to be silenced.

In the present case, Najib is rightfully petrified that he will be exposed for what he did and for what he is.

Sleepy: One is having a different opinion(s) from his boss, while the other is exposing a wrongdoing of his boss. The former requires a resignation and the later, sacking.

Behsaikong: Musa was not dismissed but resigned in protest of the PM of the day. It took tremendous guts to do that.

When he resigned as DPM, he boarded an MAS flight to London and sat with his son in economy class, distressing the crew who tried to get him a first-class seat.

He declined and said he was travelling as an ordinary fare-paying passenger and asked them to get on with the flight.

Appum: It's such a pity that Umno members refuse to see the difference between loyalty to a leader and patriotism to the nation.

Perhaps, in this materialistic world of ours, instant gratification (cash being king) is, to them, more important than long-term success of the nation.

Mafeeah: What is Najib afraid of? His shadow? Come on Najib, what's scaring you?

There's only one gutsy chap in the scene - the old fox. Ironically, he's the one who trained this new PM.

At least Najib didn't kill his party, Salleh tells ex-DPM

Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan: Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak, you reasoned that Mahathir could not stop Musa from speaking because the latter at that time had 50 percent support from Umno members.

Well, with such strong support for Musa, Mahathir had more reasons to prevent him from speaking, bearing in mind that the prerogative for allowing the deputy to speak rests with the president.

Yet, Mahathir did not exercise it. He should have done it to prevent Musa from gathering extra support.

But, on the other hand, Najib claims to have three million supporters and yet is scared of a very weak deputy. Why?

Democracy: So Mahathir may have been undemocratic in killing the old Umno. What did Najib do? He supported Mahathir's action by joining Umno Baru.

Many did not join Umno Baru as they, unlike Najib, did not condone the act.

The Malaysian: Salleh, please do not defend the indefensible. Malaysia today is a pariah country with a leader who is tainted from head to toe.

You are a traitor, to your family to start with, if you not only convince yourself that black is white but also try to convince other Malaysians to see things your way. Shame on you.

Wsoi: Power works according to Newton’s third law: action and reaction is always equal and opposite.

When power is granted to a leader who is unjust to the public, the opposite power will fire the leader continuously, until the leader ceases to possess power completely.

He will face the law when he loses the power that once protects him.

Hopeful123: Salleh, why are you wasting your time trying to explain and score points? Nobody will buy your story.

You are getting hammered every time you open your mouth. It is all too obvious. Please have some self-pride and dignity.

Doc: "Many allegations can be thrown at Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, but at least he did not kill his party," said Salleh.

You should rephrase your sentence to "at least he did not kill his party, ‘yet’." Najib is almost there in the killing of his party. He just needs a little bit more time.
