Umno Youth holds talks on hot topics as prelude to AGM

Umno Youth organised a series of talks today to brief the youth on national issues that are stirring public sentiment and how it will impact the youth community.

Among them were a talk by Finance Minister II Husni Hanadzlah on the Budget 2016 and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed on the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) and one by 1MDB president and chief executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy on the sovereign wealth fund.

There was also a dialogue on the challenges faced by the youth featuring Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin and Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.

The talks and dialogue were part of the Malaysian Youth Information Convention 2015 held at Kuala Lumpur's Putra World Trade Centre to counter rising dissatisfaction with the government over various issues.

This is especially true for 1MDB which has become one of the main weapons being used against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

It is likely that the talks were organised so that these matters are not to be raised at the Umno Youth AGM tomorrow.

Umno deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin, who was axed from the cabinet for criticising 1MDB, has already been barred from officiating at the Umno wings AGMs tomorrow.

Umno secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has said that the party will only decide later whether or not to allow Muhyiddin to wrap up on Saturday the main body's AGM before Najib.
