Steer clear of corruption, S’gor sultan reminds state gov’t
Selangor's Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has reminded the state government not to abuse power and get involved in corruption.
The ruler said rampant corruption would cause dissatisfaction among the people, and the economy would decline, leading to poverty and political instability.
"This will lead to abuse of state revenue. There will be chaos and the people cannot live in peace," he said at an investiture ceremony in conjunction with his 70th birthday anniversary at Istana Alam Shah in Shah Alam today.
The state government was also reminded to preserve the gazetted forest reserves and not destroy them for development, as they formed the state's heritage.
"I find that in Shah Alam, many trees are felled to widen roads and this has clogged up drains, resulting in flash floods, much to the inconvenience of the people.
"Local authorities, district offices, drainage and irrigation department and the public works department must always inspect drains, canals and rivers to ensure free flow of water," he said.
Sultan Sharafuddin hopes religious differences would not prevent the people of Selangor from showing mutual respect for the sake of peace and prosperity.
"Do not touch on the sensitivities of those who profess other religions. Respect for other religions will make the people live in harmony and unity."
Earlier, Selangor Zakat Board chairperson Syed Anwar Tuanku Syed Putra Jamalullail topped the list of 75 recipients of state awards and medals.
He was awarded the Darjah Kerabat Selangor Yang Amat Dihormati.
Selangor Menteri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali was the sole recipient of the First Class Seri Paduka Mahkota Selangor award which carries the title 'Datuk Seri'.
