Varsities not place to create enmity between religions

YOURSAY | 'Should police be a spokesperson for and show bias to a specific religion?'

UiTM, police host seminar against Christianisation

Malaysianheart: Is this what a university is supposed to do? By all means bring out the best in students, no matter what religion. But do not have seminars such as this, which can be seen to create division and enmity between religions.

If there are people of different religions trying to mislead or distort the teachings of others, go after them, but do not blame the religion.

This is because it is not the religion but some followers who are abusing the name of their religion for their own personal agenda.

Gaji Buta: If it is true that the police were part of this, then it is a very serious matter.

Since when the police became a spokesperson for, or are biased, towards a specific religion? Can Christians rely on the police to protect them if threatened or attacked by Muslims?

Daniel: Is it the duty of the university to strengthen the faith of its Muslim students? Is it not then fair that other academic institutions do the same for students of other faiths?

Why are the police involved in a religious matter? As the government is spending tax money to demonise my religion, is it not fair, then, for me to refuse to pay taxes?

Vijay47: Malacca CPO (chief police officer) Chua Ghee Lye, you so matter-of-factly explain and tacitly defend that a Special Branch officer had made a presentation at the UITM seminar.

Does that make it acceptable for the police to be involved in matters completely outside their jurisdiction? Does that legalise an event as combustible as this, where Muslims are pitted against Christians?

Once again, we are witness to a situation where a Muslim's faith seems dependent not on his own relationship with his god and how he adheres to his god's precepts but on what members of other faiths may or may not do.

Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, in true Umno hypocrisy, was preaching about the loss of respect that Muslims are suffering, conveniently blaming IS for a change and not the Jews or Chinese.

Dont Just Talk: CPO Chua, so, in short, the Special Branch officer from Bukit Aman, by presenting his views on the threat by Christians, is not committing sedition?

But what happens next if a Christian speaker is asked to present his views on the threat by Muslims to proselytise the non-Muslims - is it an offence then?

Chua, you can do better than that and should come out with a more palatable.

Odysseus: This is a university, not a religious school. Your job is to educate the students and broaden their thinking to help them mature.

Let them get their religious education from religious teachers. This is applicable to all students, whether they are Muslims or not. The university should just focus on educating young minds.

Iiiizzzziiii: I have never given much thought about the poor condition Malaysia as a country is in until I read the above article.

One of the many conclusions I have drawn is the apparent inferiority complex exhibited by the Malay Muslim community in this country.

There is always this great fear being propagated by its so-called leaders, religious or political, that Islam is under threat.

No one is born a Christian, Muslim or whatever. What a person believes in can be influenced and shaped by the environment. Attempts to distort or manipulate one’s beliefs to serve a hidden agenda, is akin to brainwashing and indoctrination.

How many out there understand this? Only a few, because the education system with its skewed policies, has done its job well. Many of those who have gone through it have become damaged goods. So, what kind of future has Malaysia?

Drngsc: The biggest threat to Islam today, is extremist Islam, not Christianity.

Existential Turd: If a church organises a seminar on the threat of Islamisation in Malaysia, all hell would break lose. Hordes of thugs would protest in front of the church and threaten to spill blood.

Police reports would be lodged, calls to slap the church with sedition charges would ring out. The police are supposed to be the protectors of peace, not the instigators.

Tan Kim Keong: I supposed Islamophobia goes two ways. Either these people do not really know their faith or Christianity is the real deal.

With less than five percent of the population as Christians and probably only half who are actively practising, public funds for this university should have gone into research and academic advancement programmes instead of such a seminar.

Fair&Just: Sarawak and Sabah, take heed. Take precautions before they turn your states upside-down.

HaveAgreatDay: An institution that is supposed to be in charge of security of the nation and rakyat is being used for the religious purposes of one category of rakyat in our country. Shameless and totally unprofessional.

Avatar 111: It looks like the people of a certain majority faith see it fit to protect their religion by deeming the faith of others a threat to theirs.

BernieBaby: The more the Muslims do this sort of activities, they will learn more about what Islam actually is.

Yes, the blade cuts both ways. One need not wonder why they all flee to Western (Christian based) nations when their own countries fail them.

Legit: Indeed, why are the Muslims flocking to the Christian western countries? These Muslims claim it is their dream to migrate to these nations. Isn't it an oxymoron to say they are being Christianised?

Peacemaker: So it is quite plain the BN-led government views Christians and their faith as a threat.

Now Christians have it plain as plum that they cannot count on the police for any assistance. This revelation is a Christmas present to Christian Malaysians.
