The auditor-general's final report on 1MDB, which was scheduled to be tabled to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) yesterday, will be ready only in February next year.

This was according to PAC member Tony Pua when met outside the Parliament gate.

The reason for the delay was that the auditor-general has yet to receive certain documents, he said.

"We were told they (National Audit Department) have just received a few documents, but have yet to get the other documents promised to them," he said.

However, the PAC was not told what documents are still missing for auditor-general's report, according to Pua.

"We were told the report will be ready by February," he told reporters who were barred from covering the PAC's hearing into 1MDB today.

Pua, however, refused to disclose if 1MDB president and group executive officer Arul Kanda Kandasamy, who appeared before PAC's hearing into 1MDB, has explained the reason for the state-owned firm's inability to furnish the documents.

Earlier, PAC chairperson Hasan Arifin was reported as saying the auditor-general's final report was expected to be tabled to PAC yesterday.

He was quoted as saying PAC would be calling on 1MDB chairperson Lodin Wok Kamaruddin to give his statements after the report was presented.

According to earlier reports, PAC was expected to wrap up its hearing on 1MDB on March 16.

A question now arises: will PAC be able to conclude its hearing given that it traditionally relies on the auditor-general's report to conduct its hearing?

Hasan had said the postponement was because the National Audit Department needed to update some of the information.

“PAC feels the final audit report on 1MDB has to be transparent, comprehensive and fair to ensure it is complete as demanded by Parliament and the public,” Hasan said in a statement today.

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had ordered the 1MDB audit on March 4.

The interim report has been submitted to PAC on July 9.
