PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has unveiled a list of things which should be done to improve the image of Malays and Islam.

Topping the list is for Umno president Najib Abdul Razak to go on leave until the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and auditor-general complete their probe and report on 1MDB.

“This is important to restore the good name of the Umno president, Malaysia and Islam because the investigation must be seen to be fair,” said Tuan Ibrahim in a statement.

He was responding to Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein, who urged PAS to look beyond politics in its cooperation with Umno to ensure that Muslims are well respected.

Second on Tuan Man’s list is the abolishment of the goods and services tax (GST), which is against Islam because even the poor are taxed.

The PAS deputy president also wanted the practice of abusing and wasting government funds to cease as well as strict actions to be taken based on the latest auditor-general’s report.

Number four is to reduce government expenditure and for ministries to emulate the people in tightening their belts due to the fall in oil prices and increase in the cost of living.

Tuan Man also wanted the Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) to be subjected to an open and transparent investigation.

“Ensure those who are found misusing Yapien funds face justice,” he said.

His sixth and final demand was for the federal government to return oil royalty to the PAS-led state of Kelantan.

“All these can be done by Umno without PAS as a move to show to the people, especially Muslims, how Umno is eager to uphold Islam,” he said.

Najib had extended an olive branch to PAS during the 69th Umno general assembly on Dec 11.

And last Thursday, both Najib and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang shared the same stage at a conference.
