PKR Youth welcomes Cuepacs warning to PTPTN

PKR Youth today welcomed a proposal by the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) to withdraw authorisation for automatic salary deduction by the National Higher Education Loan Fund (PTPTN).

Its students bureau chief Fahmi Zainol said PTPTN should review its policy on salary deductions by taking into consideration the various related factors.

"Cuepacs president has issued a warning that it will not hesitate to withdraw authorisation given to PTPTN to automatically make deductions from salaries of civil servants.

"This action should be commended and in fact, other agencies should be similarly thinking of the rakyat's sufferings," he said in a statement.

Instead of imposing the maximum deduction, Fahmi said PTPTN should evaluate the current situation before deciding on a reasonable amount to be deducted.

"PTPTN's actions to make maximum deductions is not only inconsiderate but also not sensitive to the current situation where fresh graduates are struggling to cope with the rising cost of living," he stressed.

Cuepacs president Azih Muda had earlier today expressed regret that there were civil servants whose salaries were cut by the fund, for PTPTN loan repayment deductions, up to a maximum rate, adding that the action was not justified and a burden to their financial position.

"There are civil servants whose pay slip is left with only RM19! What will they eat then?," he told reporters after chairing Cuepas' 2015 meeting in Kuala Lumpur.

He also advised PTPTN to be more mindful of the civil servants in performing deductions from their salaries, so as not to leave them financially burdened.
