PAS vice-president Iskandar Samad today cautioned PAS members against falling for purported media spin in reports on PAS-Umno cooperation.

"Media outlets which have always tried to smear PAS are now using this issue as their top news items and claiming that joint initiatives are planned by both parties.

"They claim there are groups (within PAS) supporting a union with Umno while others oppose and maybe this is a bid to put PAS members at loggerheads," he said in a statement.

This comes after media reports of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Umno president Najib Abdul Razak sharing the stage at an Al Azhar University alumni conference last week.

The duo, who were dressed in matching pink Baju Melayu in keeping with the conference theme, attended the event soon after Najib offered PAS the olive branch during his Umno general assembly speech.

PAS leaders responded to Najib's offer by accepting the cooperation concept but not to the extent of merging the parties which represent the largest vote banks in the country.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man also urged Najib to step down pending the graft investigation against him.

"Be careful of political moves by Umno, as there will be ulterior motives.

"Muslims are also reminded not to be bitten twice," he said.
