Negri Sembilan banned the use of electronic cigarettes and vaping in line with the National Fatwa Council’s decision yesterday to declare them as “haram”.
The Islamic Religious Council of Selangor, Sabah, Sarawak and Pahang will hold meetings before making a decision on the matter while Terengganu, Perlis and Perak are waiting for the federal government’s decision.
In Seremban, Negri Sembilan mufti Mohd Yusof Ahmad said that they would comply with the National Fatwa Council’s decision, and would officially ban vaping after the state Fatwa Committee meeting next month.
“Vaping can cause more harm than good and should be prevented before it becomes deadly like drug abuse,” he told Bernama.
The Kedah government also plans to ban the sale of electronic cigarettes and vape in the state, said state Local Government, Water Supply, Water and Energy Resources, Non-government Agencies executive council member Badrul Hisham Hashim today.
He said it was in accordance with the decision of the Kedah Fatwa Council and the National Fatwa Council which recently banned the use of electronic cigarettes and vape, that could be harmful to health.
“We will hold a meeting to discuss this matter and review the current enactment before deciding to ban the sale of all vape products and electronic cigarettes in the state.
“As of now, local authorities have not taken any action against premises selling vape until a formal decision on the ban has been achieved,” he told Bernama today.
National Fatwa Council chairperson Prof Emeritus Abdul Shukor Husin recently announced the council’s ruling that the use of electronic cigarettes and vape was prohibited (haram).
