The Malaysian Islamic Economic Development Foundation (Yapeim) has made a financial contribution to the sole survivor of last Saturday's tragedy at the Belukar Bukit waterfall in Hulu Terengganu, which claimed the lives of five family members.
The contribution totalling RM4,800 will be channelled on a monthly basis (RM200 per month) to Mohd Hasif Abdul Halim, nine, for two years for his education.
Yapeim director-general Abibullah Samsudin handed over the first contribution of RM200 to Mohd Hasif's aunt, Dr Siti Sabariah Samian, today.
"Since the assistance programme was introduced in 2010, a total of RM3.7 million has been distributed to 407 families involving 1,252 children who lost their parents in accidents and so on," he told reporters in Klang today.
In the 11.35am tragedy, Mohd Hasif's parents Abdul Halim Samian, 44, and Nurul Adila @ Salawati Awang, 39, and sisters Nurul Arifah, 16, Nurul Aina, 11, and Nurul Izah, 10, drowned while swimming at the waterfall.
Meanwhile, Dr Siti Sabariah said Mohd Hasif was a courageous and calm boy.
"Mohd Hasif is getting better, he eats as usual and no longer mentions about the tragedy that befell his parents and sisters.
"I hope to take good care of him, like my brother (Abdul Halim) did," she said.
