M’sia No 3 in worst graft scandals? Aim for gold next

YOURSAY | ‘We must work together with our beloved PM to climb to number 1.’

Shame, M'sia in top six worst corruption scandals list

Anonymous_40f4: The 47 percent who voted for Umno-BN in GE13 must hang their heads in shame.

Over the past 30 years, Malaysia has been a kleptocracy. The executive completely controls all enforcement agencies. Every scandal has been covered up without any action taken.

The 1MDB and RM2.6 billion in Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s account will soon be added to the Malaysian Book of Cover-ups 2016.

Without any accountability, the country is doomed to bankruptcy. The Malays had better wake up.

Legit Maruah: The Malays, particularly Umno Malays, should be 'proud' of this notoriety which no other prime minister in Malaysia's history had been able to achieve.

Malaysia - which used to be admired and envied by many other nations - has become a shameful and shameless nation, and Malaysians have inherited this stigma all because of one greedy couple and their cronies.

Malaysians seem resigned to the fact that there is nothing they can do, and they feel completely defeated.

Yet there is hope for one day, when a phoenix will rise from the ashes and liberate this nation from the grips of the corrupt politicians.

Exranger: Nigeria, Honduras, Guatemala, Ghana and Malaysia.

If we were to tell anyone that Malaysia would be listed together with these countries for whatever reason, I don't think anyone would believe it. However, that's where we are at now.

It is embarrassing to tell people that we are Malaysian when we’re overseas.

Pisasu 7: We are now world class, and are now trying to beat Nigeria next in terms of corruption. But in football, maybe another 100 years.

In 2016, the PM will deliver a keynote speech on how to receive donations without being caught by the inspector-general of police and the attorney-general. Priceless.

Lone_Star: We are famous, imagine being Number 3 in the world. Then again, fame is just next door to infamy.

We must work together with our beloved PM to climb to number 1. After all, as proclaimed by him, he is in charge of the best democracy in the world (though many believe it is a ‘democrazy’).

Happy 2016 to Malaysiakini and all in No 9, off Jalan Tandang, who have worked so hard in 2015 to bring us the news and views that matter.

Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan: Foreignpolicy.com should come up with another category: The most scandalous PM in the world.

Need I provide the answer? By now, it is almost unanimous on who should inherit the title.

Coming back to the worst corruption scandals, the country did fare quite well, coming in third; and the credit must go to Najib for putting our country on the world map.

As a result, he once again boasted that everyone knows where Malaysia is. Why not? It should be the top most corrupt country, with a PM whose face attracts billions of ringgit in donations.

Burong Merah: Congratulations Malaysia, you won third prize for worst corruption scandals in the world. I am ‘proud’ to be a Malaysian.

And I am looking forward to 2016, for the country to be awarded first prize.

LKY: A “dead man” still walking strong and "crushing" many of his critics along the way. Malaysia boleh. Go for the gold medal.

Rubystar_4037: The corruption case involving Fifa is being prosecuted by US attorney-general Loretta E Lynch. Nigeria has a long history of corruption.

Malaysia now ranks third, but the PM in still standing strong and has the support of all his cronies. He will survive until the next election.

This is the way of Malaysia, the corrupt can only get more corrupt because they are in power.

Wg321: Nowadays, do you know what all the 1.6 million civil servants think? They will think, "Birds do it, bees do it, the big boss does it, why can’t I do it?"

Corruption has permeated the whole country, from the top to the bottom. Those in the right post will make hay while the sun shines. In Malaysia, this is called leadership by example, a slogan makes famous by the government.

If Umno leaders and politicians practice corruption openly and don’t feel embarrassed about it, expect the civil servants to follow suit.

Anyway, the ignorant rural Malays also condone corruption by accepting ‘opium’ from Najib called BR1M (Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia).

Justine Gow: In the picture above, Malaysiakini should have Najib standing on the "Go to Jail" box of the monopoly board, instead of "Go collect your salary as you pass".
