A fellow outspoken BN backbencher has defended Deputy International Trade and Industry Minister Ahmad Maslan for his much criticised “two jobs” comment.
"The suggestion to hold two jobs is to increase one's earnings, this is called value-added, and not to burden the rakyat," Kinabatangan MP Bung Moktar Radin said on Twitter.
He said that Ahmad's suggestion on how to increase the rakyat's earnings in the face of rising cost of living is good advice, refuting the idea that it would be a burden to the public.
Ahmad had courted criticism over his remarks that many thought were insensitive to the rakyat struggling to cope with cost inceases.
Some pointed out that working two jobs was nothing new and indeed it may not be enough to tide low income earners over in today's worsening economy.
Ahmad is currently on a charm offensive to defend himself over the remarks, insisting that he meant well and that his words were taken out of context.
While some agree with Bung that holding two jobs is a logical suggestion, it has been noted that for it to come with such nonchalance from a minister that is supposed to be working towards making things better economically, is conduct unbecoming of his position.
No stranger to controversy himself, Bung has often been accused of putting his own foot in his mouth various times.
His lambast and rhetoric have become a staple of parliamentary debates and had sparked several public outcries, which some say led the government to stop live parliamentary broadcasts.
Among others, the Sabah elected representative had once got into hot water for his “bocor” comments in relation to the leaky roof of Parliament House.
He also stepped into a minefield when he made remarks that seem to insinuate that women are bad drivers.
