Media doyen A Kadir Jasin has labelled the courting of PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang by Umno chief Najib Abdul Razak as the bromance of two desperate leaders out of touch with their party members and reality itself.

"For now, this very interesting development is safer seen as a romance between two desperate party leaders. They are drawn to each other as they drift further and further away from their party members and from reality."

"These are two strangers in the night exchanging glances wondering what’s inside (their hearts) as they know that they are losing the hearts and minds of their party members," he wrote on his blog post today.

This, argued Kadir ( photo ), is as Najib continues to alienate the Umno grassroots with his high-handed handling of dissent and brusque brushing off of their queries and concerns in relation to government scandals like 1MDB and the RM2.6 billion donation.

While Hadi, who has already lost a good many members to splinter party Parti Amanah Rakyat for similar high-handed handling of internal party politics, is being opposed by dissenting voices like party veep Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man. who is fighting off any alliance with Umno.

Najib had extended an olive branch to PAS at the 69th Umno annual general assembly early last month, which was well received by Hadi.

Both leaders shared the same stage at a regional conference in Kuala Lumpur on Dec 17, last year.
