Anwar Ibrahim's lawyer Sangeet Kaur Deo said her client has instructed her to file an application to strike out certain parts of Utusan Malaysia 's defence for citing the sodomy conviction.

This is over the PKR de facto leader's suit against former Permatang Pauh Umno candidate Mazlan Ismail, Utusan and TV3.

Sangeet said she will file the striking-out application on Monday.

“We will file the application to strike out certain paragraphs of Utusan 's defence which cited Anwar's sodomy conviction,” said the lawyer.

Sangeet also told reporters that Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Justice John Louis O Hara has instructed parties to look into the possibility of going for mediation on the matter, to which she said they would consider.

“Following this, the matter has been fixed for case management on Feb 22 where parties have been directed to file the relevant documents by Feb 10,” Sangeet said.

Anwar filed the suit against Mazlan, Utusan and TV3 for implicating him of bribing judges and prosecutors .

The former opposition leader filed the suit last year through the law firm of Messrs Karpal Singh & Co, where he claimed Mazlan had caused the TV station to put up the alleged defamatory words on 'Buletin Utama' during prime time news at 8pm on Aug 2, 2013.

Anwar further claimed that Utusan also published the alleged defamatory words the next day (Aug 3, 2013).

He is seeking general, aggravated and exemplary damages where the politician claimed the words are defamatory and malicious which reflected him as a person without ethics, is corrupt, having engaged in criminal activities, as well as a dishonest and immoral person.
