Bus tragedy survivor returns, three still in Chiang Mai hospital

Another victim injured in the Chiang Mai bus crash two weeks ago, Goh Bak Chai, arrived safely at Changi International Airport, Singapore, at 3.30pm today.

Chiu Travel Sdn Bhd general manager Terence Yung confirmed the return of Goh, 64, who was expected to arrive in Batu Pahat about 7.30pm today.

"Goh will return to Batu Pahat in an ambulance accompanied by his son, Goh Chia Hwa as well as a doctor and medical staff," he told Bernama today.

Yung said Goh, who fractured his ribs, was still not fully recovered and would be referred to Pantai Hospital, Batu Pahat.

He said Goh had been notified of the death of his wife Ong Chai Hong and his sister-in-law Ong Chui Hoe before his return here.

Besides Goh who would get treatment at Pantai Hospital, Batu Pahat, all the others had been allowed to return to their homes but they still required further treatment, said Yung.

Meanwhile, three more injured people - Lim Ah Gek, 65; Lim Guat Huay, 54; and Ker Shin Hui, 29; are still being treated at Bangkok Hospital, Chiang Mai.

"They will be brought back within three months, depending on their health status. Maybe there is a possibility some can be brought back early," he said.

Yung said Shin Hui has not been informed of the death of her mother, Tan Sui Heng, 54, and her father Ker Boon Ngwang, 57, due to emotional and safety factors. In the incident, Shin Hui also lost her grandmother, Low Chee Lan, 85, and her cousin Tan Thin Thin, 36.

In the incident, 22 Malaysians from Batu Pahat, Johor, were involved in a bus crash in Chiang Mai when the bus collided with a truck while travelling from Chiang Rai.

Thirteen Malaysians were killed in the tragedy.
