‘PAS is two-timing BN and Pakatan Harapan’

YOURSAY | ‘Why cooperate with a party that has committed so many sins?’

PAS will not join BN, syura council reiterates

Kim Quek: This latest announcement by PAS ruling out political alliance with Umno (for now, of course) once again confirms the fact that majority of members and mid-rank hierarchy would not tolerate the pro-Umno move pushed by the conservatives (now firmly controlling the party), led by president Abdul Hadi Awang and spiritual leader Haron Din.

In fact, disillusionment over Hadi’s pro-Umno stance, openly exhibited recently, has only worsened the sense of alienation from PAS (by both members and supporters), which started since the party’s abrupt bent towards the right following the conservatives’ grab of total power in the party election mid-2015.

Irrespective of what the leaders announce now with respect to the form of liaison with Umno, the distrust over the leadership of Hadi and his cohorts has already set in, and such distrust will be translated into votes in future elections.

PAS’ loss is Amanah’s gain. I foresee the latter will outshine and outclass the former in future elections.

Anonymous_3e86: Does PAS need to cooperate with Umno to strengthen Islam? Can't it do it on its own? Why cooperate with a party that has committed so many sins?

It’s strange that Hadi wants to cooperate with Umno while the syura council says that it will not join BN.

What's Hadi trying to do? Two-timing BN and Pakatan Harapan at the same time? It’s best that Pakatan ditch PAS now as Hadi can't be trusted.

Frankiepo: Bitten once, they're smarter now. They want to act as a third force and would swing towards where the ship is going, should there be benefits to them, and ignoring the rakyat again.

Wong Fei Hoong: It's best that PAS joins Umno to fight the cause of strengthening Islam. It is also a good platform for PAS to implement hudud. PAS cannot work with PKR or DAP to achieve its objective.

Freethinker: I'm sure they won't join Umno or else they will be fighting for the same pie, which would result in BN's downfall in the next GE.

PAS will be the spoiler party in any three-way fight. It makes no benefit for them to join forces before the GE anyway.

Hope: Stop the 'wayang'. Just declare that you are joining up with Umno. No need to keep on coming up with terms like "friendly" and "adviser" to cover up.

Prudent: This means that PAS will not officially 'marry' Umno but it will seek out and have wanton liaisons with all 'willing' parties.

So PAS will end up cheating the Malays - its ultimate husband.

The Analyser: In reality Malaysian politics is an exercise in negatives. Voters leave BN because they are disillusioned, not because the alternative is better. Voters leave PAS because they are disillusioned, not because Amanah is better.

Voters leave PKR because they are disillusioned, not because DAP is better. And people will eventually leave Amanah and DAP because they are disillusioned ...and there is nowhere for them to go.

The reality is that the majority of PAS members are people disillusioned with BN but equally disillusioned with the alternatives. Do you really think the average Malay wants an Islamic state?

The fact that Amanah is 'flourishing' is a reflection of the fear the Malays have of Islamisation.

The problem is that when they run to Amanah, all they will find is an empty shell with the same sort of dogma that they rejected in PAS.

For that very reason, Malaysia needs a clearly defined independent democratic party that will attract thinking and aspiring Malaysians of all races.

BeeC: Not joining BN, but Hadi may find ways to help BN by causing three-cornered fights in PRU14.

It's very important to make the PAS grassroots understand and to reject Hadi's pro-BN strategies. By hook or by crook, stop Umno from hijacking PAS supporters.

MA: I thought DAP was also working to help Muslim folk? Anything to indicate otherwise? Oh! it must be the Israeli connection and the building of Israeli army bases in Penang...

Aquinas Says: To all intents and purposes, PAS under Hadi has already made a pact with Umno. They just can't say it for two reasons.

Firstly, to keep Pakatan divided and secondly, so as not to tempt a backlash from PAS members who are against any pact with Umno. Keeping things open-ended allows PAS to have the best of both worlds.

If you harbour hopes of PAS returning to the fold under Hadi, you are dreaming. My advice to Harapan is cut the cord now and deal with the fallout.

Then work at strengthening the coalition and give us reason to hope. Leave the politicking to Umno and PAS and focus on our future.

Anonymous_1388029052: That means to say PAS will not, and cannot, work with parties that do not have any so-called Islamic agenda.

That would alienate 40 percent of the population and the majority of Sabah/Sarawak folks. Isn't that silly of any political party in multi-racial Malaysia?

Anonymous #44199885: There quite obviously exists some serious divisions in PAS over working with Umno despite the actions of Hadi.

Serious misgivings may probably exist over accepting the overtures of Umno, which most certainly will lead to the death of PAS in urban and semi-urban Malaysia.

Anonymous #40538199: Is helping a corrupted regime to hold on to power considered as a good and pious deed in strengthening the religion and its struggle?

Does promoting the religion justify dancing with the devil?
