Senior Selangor state executive councillor Teng Chang Khim has denied giving Parti Amanah Negara a tongue-lashing.

A newspaper report quoting him as saying that Amanah should be grateful to have been given eight local council seats, Teng said, was "sensationalised and misreported".

He added in a Facebook posting last night: "My answer was to urge Amanah to accept the eight local council seats allocated by the state government for now.

"Their request for more seats can be discussed at the next term as there isn't enough time to discuss it now."

He said he had answered calmly and diplomatically, and did not reply in a harsh or aggressive manner.

Teng was responding to a Sinar Harian report with the heading 'Amanah patut bersyukur dapat lapan kerusi' (Amanah should be grateful to get eight seats).

In the article, Teng is quoted as saying that the Selangor government has no time to entertain Amanah's displeasure over local council seats.

The report quoted Teng as saying that the Selangor government would not be affected if Amanah refuses to accept its eight local council seats.

Amanah was allocated eight local council seats on Wednesday, but its Selangor chairperson Izham Hashim was quoted as saying the party has not decided whether to accept the seats or not.

The party had asked for 24 out of the 288 seats in all the local councils in Selangor.
