Case management for a sedition charge involving DAP's Tanjong MP Ng Wei Aik will be held at the Sessions Court in George Town on Feb 5.

Ng's lawyer RSN Rayer asked for another mention date in order to make a representation on the case to the Attorney-General's Chambers.

Sessions Court judge Ibrahim Othman said the case must be expedited and set for trial immediately due to public interest, and fixed Feb 5 for case management.

Deputy public prosecutor Siti Fatimah Talib then handed over all related documents to the court.

Ng is facing a charge under Sedition Act 1948 for an article he wrote in a Chinese language daily in February last year in support of PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar was then sent to a five-year imprisonment by the Federal Court for a sodomy charge involving his former aide Saiful Bukhary Azlan in 2008.

Ng was charged after Penang MCA Youth deputy chief Ang Chor Keong lodged a police report against him on Feb 16.

Ang took offence with Ng's article headlined 'Let the trumpet of reformasi sound', which was published in Kwong Wah Yit Poh on Feb 11.

The offending content of the article includes the statement: “With Anwar landed in jail, it is time for us to seek for reformasi again, until the next GE, until the days that rakyat can be the real decision-makers of the country.

“Let us not continue to be misled by those stupid politicians!"

Ng joined other MPs like Khalid Samad (Shah Alam-Amanah), Tian Chua (Batu-PKR), Rafizi Ramli (Pandan-PKR) and Tony Pua (Petaling Jaya Utara -DAP) who are also charged with sedition.
