Three men were injured in a shooting and parang-wielding incident at a foodstall in Jalan Empat, Chan Sow Lin in Kuala Lumpur today.

The incident occurred about 9.20am when two businessmen, both with the 'datuk' title, were having breakfast at the stall when two men approached and attacked one of the datuk.

Cheras district police chief ACP Chong Kok Sin said the two suspects then took out their machetes and slashed the victim on the back and face, while the other businessman fled.

"The victim's personal bodyguard who saw the incident took out a Glock 99 pistol and fired several shots at the suspects.

"The shots hit one of the suspects, while the other fled in a gold-coloured Toyota Hilux car with another man inside," he told reporters at the scene.

Chong said the suspect who was shot was sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre for treatment and placed in police custody.

"A male worker at the foodstall was also shot in the leg in the incident and was sent to a hospital for treatment, while the injured businessman was sent to a hospital in Bangsar for treatment," he added.

"It was like an action film," said a witness at a parang and pistol encounter at a stall in Jalan Chan Sow Lin in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

The witness who only wanted to be known as Lee, said he and two friends were having breakfast at the stall at 9.20am today when the incident unfolded.

He said two men suddenly attacked one of two businessmen, with the titles of 'datuk', who were also having their breakfast, with parang.

A bodyguard of one of the businessman, whipped out his pistol and shot at the suspects several times resulting in other customers running for cover.

Lee said he had breakfast daily at the stall and did not expect the incident to take place in front of his own eyes.

"One of the assailants fell to the floor covered in blood," he told Bernama when met at the location.

Meanwhile, the owner of the stall, who only wanted to be known as Wong, said the two businessmen often had breakfast at her stall with their personal bodyguards.

"While I was making tea in the kitchen, I saw two men suddenly rushed in and slashed the right shoulder of one of the datuks.

"A bodyguard of the other businessman who sat close to his employer's table quickly pulled out his pistol and shot at them.

"One of the bullets hit my 17-year-old nephew's left leg as he was sending drinks to other clients," she said.

Wong said the shots resulted in one of the assailants falling down while the other escaped in a four-wheel-drive vehicle.

"The victim (datuk) was taken by his colleague to the hospital while the latter's bodyguard stayed by the fallen assailant waiting for the police to arrive.

"The assailant and my nephew were taken to hospital by policemen who arrived at the scene," she said.

Police found seven SME 9MM 1.14 cartridges and a slug and also seized two 10-inch parang and a T-shirt at the scene.
