Perak sultan says don't spin, Salleh Keruak does just that

YOURSAY | 'This is a deliberate misrepresentation and an insult to the sultan's intelligence.'

Salleh lectures media again, citing Perak sultan

Anonymous_1404717623: Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak is the minister of twists and turns.

The Perak sultan commented on the mainstream media, but the minister tries to twist it to refer to the alternative media.

Ghostwhowalks: Yes, Perak Sultan Nazrin Shah mentioned the state media. There was no mention of the alternative media.

So don't spin issues, which is what the sultan cautioned the mainstream media. Why are you not listening, Salleh?

Speaking Sense: Indeed, this is a deliberate misrepresentation of what the Perak sultan said , and an insult to the sultan's intelligence.

Old Timer: It is sad that Salleh either did not understand the contents or the spirit of the sultan's speech, or he intentionally misinterpreted or twisted what the sultan said and exploited it for his political gains.

It is time that he attended some critical thinking courses.

Bumiborn: Salleh is trying to put words into the sultan's mouth. That's rude and dishonest.

Anonymous #21828131: No sooner had the sultan laid bare the facts, here is a fine example how the top dog, the minister himself, twists and turns what was said to confuse people.

What irony, he just put his foot in his mouth, so to speak.

Res Ipsa: The words of the sultan ring loud and clear in that reference is being drawn solely to official or state-owned media over their credibility, or rather the lack of it.

The alternative media has evolved over the years due to this erosion of the credibility of the mainstream.

This credibility deficit seems to have gained substantial pace lately, primarily due to the action/inaction of the said mainstream media geared towards the protection of one man.

Hence the royal rebuke to the official media institutions to buck up. So Mr Communications Minister, isn't it time for you to address the issues raised by the ruler instead of trying to rope in or apportion blame to the alternative media?

Quigonbond: What Salleh says means zero to ordinary Malaysians. Who is rendering biased report?

Sultans always speak with neutral tongue (which I find generally pointless because it'll be used to opposing party's interpretation resulting in net zero gain in terms of influence).

I'm sure Salleh is not intentionally pointing fingers at Utusan . I'm sure somewhere in there, he's trying to massage the message to aim at the likes of Malaysiakini , Malaysian Insider , etc.

Who's he fooling? Malaysiakini would not have taken off in this spectacular fashion if Utusan , NST or The Star are as objective or neutral as BBC.

Nes: Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim is right in saying that the whole government has no more sense of shame .

Salleh is doing exactly what the sultan is warning the state media not to do: spinning the news. Oops, I forget, Salleh is the minister of mass (mis)communication.

Ipohcrite: Salleh's action in lecturing the media on the need to be unbiased in their reporting is like "the pot calling the kettle black".

But then, the good minister has developed an elephant's hide to be able to say what he just said.

Joker: Misquoting the sultan? Having a communications minister like Salleh is exactly the reason why HRH (His Royal Highness) said state-owned media has a credibility crisis.

Unfazed Zaid vows to defend 'heartless judges' charge

Speak For All: Well said, former minister Zaid Ibrahim - "If a mother cannot be with her daughter for nine years, then the system stinks."

It is pointless to talk about greatness of any religion, let alone any person who practises that religion, if basic fundamentals cannot be observed.

Anonymous #45522856: Thank you Zaid, for speaking up for M Indira Gandhi and her children.

Aryan: It looks as if among the three appellate court judges, only one seems to have grasped the nuances of the law though he is also a Muslim.

We need more of such beacons of fair judges to bring back the glory of our judiciary, which had many luminaries like Mohamed Suffian Hashim, Harun Hashim and Eusoffe Abdoolcader and Hishamudin Mohd Yunus, to name a few.

Alas, this is just wishful thinking.

Babylon: Judges are not gods or above criticism. They are just mere mortals who should be able to take criticism like anyone else.

Abasir: Any system that simply stands by and perpetuates blatant injustice (like separating a mother from her child) in the name of precedents is not just heartless.

It is barbaric, especially when its fundamentals are rooted in medieval religious bias.
