YOURSAY | ‘Assets belonging to the nation are sold but proceeds do not go to govt's coffers.’

Najib denies public funds used to settle 1MDB's 'woes'

Caripasal: PM Najib Razak, aren't you ashamed for saying that no public funds were used to settle 1MDB's woes?

We lost a piece of prime public land to private and foreign companies without seeing any profit. Not to mention, the additional billions ringgit of debts the taxpayers probably need to pay.

Donplaypuks: How come you forgot the RM4 billion takeover of 1MDB's 'investment' financed by borrowings from KWAP (Retirement Fund Inc) and taken over by the Finance Ministry?

What about RM950 million line of credit given to 1MDB by the Finance Ministry and approved by you as finance minister? What about land sales at inflated prices to GLCs (government-linked companies)?

For the complete list, click here .

Firestone: Indeed, this man knows no shame! The RM950 million standby credit approved by Parliament is not public money? The money in Tabung Haji is not public money?

How can those people working in the PM’s Office face their children with a straight face?

Shamu99: Yes, the 1MBD business is flawed and the risks are there, I agree.

But this rationalisation plan of selling cheaply-acquired government land and selling high to pay off debts doesn't seem to be a clever plan.

What happened to the RM42 billion that was borrowed? Genuine losses we can expect, but not when there is an element of corruption.

I am not a genius but common sense tells me something fishy is going on in 1MDB.

Saya Pun Nak Cari Makan: Najib, you did not use public funds to settle the 1MDB problem, but you use public land, bought at dirt cheap price, to do it.

Whatever way you call it, at the end of the day, it was done at the expense of the people.

Boeyks: By giving public land at a ridiculously low price and selling it to foreigners to overcome 1MDB losses is short-changing the people of Malaysia.

Why not sell some more public land so that 1MDB can show some profit to showcase your ‘entrepreneurial’ ability and that of your 1MDB advisory board?

Anonymous_1430706973: Assets belonging to the nation are sold but the proceeds do not go to the government's coffers. Instead, the proceeds go to settle 1MDB borrowings.

Therefore, the rakyat are deprived of the benefits from the sale. How is this different from using taxpayers’ funds to settle 1MDB financial problems?

It doesn't need a genius to figure this out.

Najib vs Ling defamation suit goes for mediation

CQ Muar: Former MCA chief Ling Liong Sik, under no circumstances must you relent and allow Najib an opportunity to escape the alleged crimes he had committed over the years, ever since he was the deputy prime minister.

Under his leadership since taking over as the PM of this country, Najib has been accused of serious wrongdoings and misconducts.

Your affirmation about Najib was clearly justified and correct, and the majority of the rakyat are solidly behind you for the stand.

Najib has filed a legal suit against you for defamation, thus giving up is tantamount to weakness on your part, Ling.

Please, therefore, do not allow Najib to have it his way, for the sake of this country and the rakyat.

Odin Tajué: The Bugis warrior wannabe has once again proved beyond any reasonable doubt that he is nothing more than a cowardly bully.

Ling called his bluff, and he tucked his tail between his hind legs and slunk away - like a rat scurrying away under the cover of the night's darkness.

Yes, the coward has the cojones only to take action against the less formidable such as Malaysiakini, and politicians Tony Pua and Rafizi Ramli.

Anonymous_4031c: This is mind-boggling. Najib chose to sue and Ling says to bring it on. What's there to mediate?

Shouldn't Najib have his day in court and slam-dunk all these malicious and false accusations? What a waste of opportunity, like the unfiled suit against The Wall Street Journal to clear his name.
