PAS will not hesitate to terminate its cooperation with PKR if the latter follows DAP's footsteps, the party's ulama wing information chief Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali reportedly said.
The Malay-language daily Sinar Harian quoted him saying that PAS would not allow its partners to conduct "sabotage" together with its enemies in PAS territory.
“We see in Kelantan for example when PKR takes part in an Amanah program, it attacks the constituency dominated by PAS. This is tantamount to sabotaging PAS; we cannot befriend our enemies.
“PAS' principle is not to cooperate with traitors. That is clear, since PKR has an agreement with Amanah and DAP, although we would have to review this from time to time,” he reportedly said.
Khairuddin ( photo ) added that PAS does not want to be used by PKR as DAP had done in the previous general election.
“DAP had previously made much use of our resources in facing the election, and then they used us not for Islamic principles. We are firm on this and are prepared to go alone without cooperation from DAP and PKR.
“We will cooperate with new parties and NGOs to form a new political cooperation without neglecting the needs of the rakyat, especially in facing the upcoming election,” he reportedly said.
PAS and DAP had a falling out last year after the latter opposed PAS' move to implement hudud in Kelantan, eventually leading to the disintegration of the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
Meanwhile, in response to a hardline shift in PAS' leadership line-up in last year's party election, a group of disgruntled members had left the party to form Amanah.
DAP, PKR and Amanah then teamed up to form the new Pakatan Harapan coalition, but despite this, PKR's top leadership had been coy when asked by the press on the status of its relationship with PAS.
