A 24-year-old man, Jackson Yeoh, was charged todaywith allegedly stealing S$900,000 (about RM2.73 million) worth of casino chips at Marina Bay Sands, Channel NewsAsia reported.

The report said on Sept 2 last year, a casino patron’s bag was stolen.

The bag, a black clutch valued at S$1,000, also contained a driving licence, a BMW car key, credit cards, S$10,000 in cash, and a Samsung mobile phone worth S$500.

The report said Yeoh was then arrested in Malaysia with help from the Royal Malaysian Police, and was handed over to the Singapore police yesterday.

He was charged in court today with theft.

If convicted, he faces jail of up to three years, a fine, or both.

Yeoh has been remanded for one week, with permission to take him out for investigations, the report said. He is next due in court on Jan 28.
