Supporters of embattled Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir are still upset with Umno for trying to topple him from his post.

Several hundreds of them have gathered at the Jerlun Umno office since 3pm.

They carried banners in support of Mukhriz, who is also Kedah Umno chief, and cried slogans of "Hidup Mukhriz!".

They have also started a signature campaign to support their favourite menteri besar.

Muhkriz arrived at 4pm, and was greeted by his supporters, among them were Kedah Youth and Sports, Culture and Arts and Moral Development Committee chairman Aminuddin Omar, Kota Seputeh assemblyman Abu Hassan Sarif and Kedah Umno Wanita chief Maznah Hamid.

During his speech, Abu Hassan said the plot to topple Muhkriz came very abruptly.

"There was no wind, storm or typhoon but suddenly, a bomb was dropped on all of Kedah, not only Jerlun.

"However, despite all the chaos, Muhkriz has continued doing his work," Abu Hassan said.

He recalled that in 1995 and 2004, the top leadership tried to replace the menteri besar due to internal pressure, BN suffered in the national polls (1999 and 2008).

"Those who want to replace Muhkriz are all my friends but none are qualified to be the MB," he added.

Yesterday, Ahmad Bashah led several Kedah Umno leaders to declare a lost of confidence in Mukhriz.

He went on to call Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak to intervene and remove Mukhriz as menteri besar.

That night, Mukhriz supporters mobilised over 1,000 people in solidarity with the Kedah menteri besar outside the Kedah Umno headquarters in Alor Setar.
