TPPA-loving Umno must be a Chinese party, Pua tells Hadi

DAP publicity chief Tony Pua has sarcastically told PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang that Umno, which the Islamic party is warming up to, may be filled with Chinese.

This was after Abdul Hadi accused the DAP of supporting the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) because the Chinese community purportedly control trade activities in the country.

"Umno supports TPPA, so they must be Chinese," Pua said in a Facebook posting.

On a serious note, Pua reiterated that the DAP had never declared support for the TPPA and slammed Abdul Hadi for racialising the issue.

"Racist and brainless," he said.

The row comes hours before the anti-TPPA rally set to take place in Kuala Lumpur.

Yesterday, Abdul Hadi in a pre-rally video urged members to join the rally and also took aim at DAP.

"Our contractors will need to compete with their (TPP members) contractors who have more advanced equipment, experience and capability. We will lose when we fight them.

"There will also be open tender which is why DAP and Singapore are in favour because the Chinese control trade in Malaysia.

"It is the bumiputera community that will suffer from this TPPA," he was quoted as saying.

PAS is mobilising its members for the protest, which will kick off at 2pm today.

DAP also came under criticism from PSM, which has also pledged to join the rally, for its apparent lack of public commitment in mustering its members to support the protest.

In response, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng chastised PSM, insisting that the DAP was not in support for the TPPA but did not make any commitment that it will mobilise for the rally.
