Adenan: S'wak to help students affected by JPA scholarship cuts
The Sarawak government will help those local students affected by the suspension of the Public Service Department (JPA) scholarships, said Chief Minister Adenan Satem today.
"Yes, we will help them. I have given the instruction to the Sarawak Foundation to find ways and means on how best to help them," he said in a statement in Kuching.
He said those affected were welcomed to present their petition to the state government.
Yesterday, a few of them came together to write a letter appealing for help from Adenan.
On another matter, Adenan welcomed Sabah and Sarawak Chief Judge Richard Malanjum's advice for judges and judicial officers in both states to continue to give more focus to environmental and tourism related cases.
Adenan described the advice as "a splendid idea."
"I will discuss with Malanjum on how to go about this because there are legal implications involved," he added.
Meanwhile, also touching on the suspension of the JPA scholarships, Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Sim Kui Hian said he was happy the state government under Adenan had came forward to help the affected students through the Sarawak Foundation.
"We must continue to appeal to the federal government which manages the JPA scholarships to look at Sarawak students as special cases.
"I have always maintained that it is not good enough for Sarawak to fight for more infrastructural development projects, but also its human resources development through its students," he said.
