Police on lookout for IS activities in Perak
Perak police are monitoring the people's activities in the state to ensure they are not influenced by negative elements, including the IS militant group.
State police chief, Osman Salleh said so far, they had not detected any militant activity in Perak.
"Besides carrying out the usual crime-preventian tasks, we are also working at preventing the IS threat. We are collaborating with the Malaysian Armed Forces in this.
"We are keeping a security watch, especially on the public haunts so that the public feel safe," he told reporters at the 'High-Profile Policing' programme with the community in conjuncton with the Thaipusam celebration at the Arul Subramaniar temple in Ipoh today.
He said for the celebration, Perak police had formed a special team of officers and other personnel to ensure public safety.
About 1,600 personnel are on security watch at the Gunung Cheruh area where the Arul Subramaniar temple is located and is the main scene of the Thaipusam celebration, here.
On the arrest of members of the notorious Mamak Gang last Friday, Osman said police were trying to identify another member of the gang.
In the incident, a 38-year-old Mamak Gang member was shot dead while another two, aged 31 and 35, were nabbed after their car crashed into police cars at the Changkat Jering toll plaza.
The man driving the Volkswagen Passat refused to stop the car when ordered by police but drove ahead and crashed into the police cars, forcing police to fire shots and the man was hit on his left chest.
The suspects, all from Perak, have previous criminal records.
