The Immigration Department's move to rotate officials frequently, especially those working in border areas, has been successful in reducing corrupt practices among the agency's staff.
Its deputy director-general (management) Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman said the directive to rotate its officers every three years also made the department's personnel more efficient in their work.
"We do not want Immigration Department staff to serve too long in a particular area, especially in border areas, as this can make it difficult for them to take action because they become closely familiar with the local community.
"Besides, the job rotation gives them the opportunity to perform different tasks, instead of perfoming the same task for the duration of their service," he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating the closing of the Integrity Enhancement Programme by Pahang Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission jointly with the Malaysian Immigration Department East Zone, in Kuantan today.
The one-day programme was attended by 150 immigration personnel from Terengganu, Kelantan and Pahang.
