A veteran newsman opted for the Spanish phrase 'Que Sera, Sera' (Whatever will be, will be) made popular by a song in the late 1950s to describe the decision not to prosecute Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Following attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali's announcement today, Kadir posted on his blog: "This is lunchtime. Continue with your meal."

"No point losing appetite. Avoid heart attack and stomach cramp.

"You think the PM cares if you drop dead of remorse and disappointment? Life goes on," he said.

Speaking to Malaysiakini later, Kadir quipped that numerous songs were written in the past for Malaysians at the present moment and proceeded to croon a verse from one, Frank Sinatra's 'Strangers in the night'.

"This song aptly describes the current courtship between Najib and PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang," he said, with laughter.

On a more serious note, the former New Straits Times group editor-in-chief said the decision not to file charges against the prime minister did not come as a surprise.

He claimed this was put into motion ever since Apandi's predecessor Abdul Gani Patail was suddenly removed from office for health reasons in last July.

Gani was replaced some three weeks after the Wall Street Journal and whistleblower website Sarawak Report reported on the transfer of RM2.6 billion and SRC International Sdn Bhd's RM42 million into the prime minister's personal bank accounts.

The report was based on leaked documents by Malaysian investigators.

Meanwhile, Kadir, who has been a staunch critic of Najib, said he expected changes in the MACC soon.

"What we have seen now is legal housekeeping. After this, it will be house cleaning. These are still interesting times," he added.

Najib has repeatedly denied abusing public funds for personal gains, and accused his detractors of conspiring to topple him.
