Najib, Zahid go on campaign blitz, after S'wak polls date proposal
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and his deputy Ahmad Zahid Hamidi spent a busy weekend in Sarawak, signalling a gearing up for the Sarawak election.
This comes after Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem last Friday proposed April 18 as nomination day and polling day on April 30.
The Election Commission said dates should only be set after the assembly is dissolved while elections must be held by June.
Najib yesterday attended a BN supreme council dinner at the state legislative assembly building in Kuching while Umno veep Ahmad Zahid spent a whole day at various community programmes.
With schedules akin to an election campaign, Zahid attended programmes with students and community religious leaders yesterday.

Continuing at an event in Sibu today, Zahid said Sarawakians must show their confidence in the state government by backing new Chief Minister Adenan Satem at the state polls.
"I know Adenan is a popular leader. He has wisely dealt with various issues which impact the people in this state.
"So come state election, all Sarawkians must unite and support him so he can continue to head the state government," he was quoted as saying by Bernama .
"This is why whenever I meet the community, I urge people to support this government led by a people-friendly leader," he added.
Najib, too, hit the campaign trail today through visits to schools, a bridge project and a community event in Simunjan, Batang Sadong and Bintulu.
In Bintulu, he assured attendees that the federal government will not impede the rights of the people of Sarawak.
"I have no intention of taking Sarawak's rights. We can give them back if we have taken them," he said at a meet-the-people gathering which was attended by more than 15,000 people here, Bernama reported.
He also assured that BN will uphold its promise to build the Batang Lupar bridge in Sri Aman.
"It will be a manifesto of Sarawak BN to see this implemented," he reportedly said.
