No need to resign over stalled hudud bid, says PAS veep

PAS vice-president Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah has dismissed the party’s former vice-president Husam Musa who had urged for his resignation.

“We will bring the (hudud) bill to Parliament. It would not be our responsibility if it (the tabling of the bill) fails or otherwise,” said Mohd Amar as quoted by Malay daily Sinar Harian .

“I can also ask him (Husam) back; he has failed in several undertakings, why didn't he resign?"

Amar was responding to Husam who had urged both him and PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan to resign for failing to table a bill in Parliament to pave the way for the implementation of hudud.

Husam had urged the duo's resignation at a forum in Kota Baru on Friday. He said the duo should resign because they were involved in discussions with a representative of a federal minister over the matter.

Meanwhile, responding to Husam’s claim that implementing hudud in Kelantan was nothing more than a political ploy, Amar said this claim was nothing but baseless.

Husam, he said, should realise that it has always been PAS’ aim to implement hudud since the early days of the party’s establishment.

He also reminded Husam to stop being a tool of DAP, citing “stupid statements” made by Husam.

“I advise him not to be DAP’s mouthpiece by continuing what that has been said by that party previously," he said.

'Pakatan Rakyat break-up due to DAP'

PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang's bill to amend the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355) made it to the Dewan Rakyat order paper last year but was never debated because the House was occupied with other matters.

The issue caused the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat, with DAP accusing PAS of not consulting its partners.

Meanwhile, Amar once again stressed that the break-up of Pakatan Rakyat was not because of PAS and was instead due to DAP.

DAP’s arrogance and own political agenda were the major reasons that had led to the break-up.

“It’s not true that it was PAS' fault and it’s not fair to blame the hudud agenda for the split.

“Again, I stress, that claim is baseless and stupid,” he said.

Meanwhile, Takiyuddin said he was not responsible to Husam in explaining anything, including matters related to the implementation of hudud.

Husam, he said, did not know many things with regard to the administration of Kelantan and a lot of things did not need to be told to him, too.

“We have no responsibility to explain things to Husam. For me, my responsibility is in carrying out my duties. I’m not responsible to him,” he said, as quoted by Sinar Harian .
