Umno senator wants MACC to 'discipline' Bahri

Disciplinary action must be taken against any MACC officer seen to be allegedly involved in attempts to smear the image of the country’s leaders including that of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, former Malacca chief minister Mohd Ali Rustam demanded today.

Utusan Malaysia today quoted him as specifically referring to MACC special operations director Bahri Mohd Zin whom he accused of issuing statements that could potentially 'confuse' the public.

“MACC must take immediate action against its officers who are seen as attempting to smear the prime minister’s image, especially Bahri, as a reflection of its seriousness in dealing with disciplinary problems.

“For me, the officers involved were not authorised to issue such statements and are seen to still be questioning the statement by attorney-general Apandi Ali and the MACC, confirming (there were no wrongdoings) in the RM2.6 billion case linked to the prime minister,” Ali, who is a senator, reportedly said during a press conference yesterday.

Ali’s call was made in response to another Utusan Malaysia report on a supposed all-out war between Bahri and MACC chief commissioner Abu Kassim Mohamed over an alleged disagreement on Apandi’s decision to clear Najib.

Apandi had last week cleared Najib of any wrongdoings based on the outcome of MACC’s investigations and Bahri later came under attack from pro-Umno bloggers after he reportedly said that the anti-graft commission may seek to review the decision.

Bahri had yesterday also lodged a police report against blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin who had first made the allegation of the supposed all-out war in a recent posting.

Bahri said the blog posting had slandered him by accusing him of being a 'DAP agent' who wanted to topple the Umno-led government.

On Sunday, the MACC had confirmed the authenticity of a leaked internal memo sent to the commission’s staff by Abu Kassim.

In the memo, Abu Kassim said he would rather resign from his post than attack his officers.
