Mukhriz's political demise marks end of Mahathir dynasty?

YOURSAY | 'People would have respected him more had he gone down fighting.'

Mukhriz steps down, Bashah new Kedah MB

Vijay47: All the reports until this morning suggested that Mukhriz Mahathir was forged of sterner mettle and would fight to the bitter end the massive Umno forces and wealth arrayed against him.

In the end, the battle to stay as Kedah MB concluded like a damp squib. It is all very heroic to say "I will not be silenced and politics is in my blood", but people would have respected him more had he gone down fighting.

Mukhriz will be able to do zilch now. He can now join former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his 'We once were' club.

Septuaman: Yes, I thought he was made of sterner stuff and would go down fighting. Instead, he meekly surrendered without a whimper.

When you go down like this, it's pretty hard to come out tops again. Nobody backs a loser but wimps don't know that.

ACR: I am wondering why many commentators are chastising Mukhriz for apparently 'not going down fighting' or some similar tale. Hello, he withstood three requests to resign.

To its credit, the Kedah Regency Council managed the fiasco very well and only upon confirming he no longer had the support of the House did Mukhriz announce his resignation on the advice of the council.

His position is subject to legalities. Are we expecting him to bring a gang and hold the MB's office through force?

Anthony Chan: At least Umno again made the change in MB without a crisis, unlike PKR in Selangor.

PKR should learn from Umno in this area. We all know PKR problems were with PAS. But Selangor MB Azmin Ali never learnt that and is still sticking with PAS.

Victor Johan: Now do we see Ahmad Bashah Md Hanapiah as Kedah MB for the shortest term, if he is given a vote of no-confidence when the state assembly convenes in the coming months? I sure hope that strategy works.

Just a Malaysian: Maybe the only good thing that comes up from this crisis is we might be able to get rid of Mahathirism for good.

Mukhriz will continue Mahathirism if he moves up the leadership ladder. Malaysia needs a new and more inclusive philosophy.

Gggg: I have utmost respect for the Regency Council for the way it handled this crisis.

Anonymous_1379486274: This is karma. Mukhriz is a victim of somebody's sins in the past. Listen, all corrupted people, karma is waiting.

Swipenter: Is this the end of the Mahathir dynasty? The student has defeated his master. But wait a minute.

The old master might still have one more move that is hidden from his 'ungrateful' student that can prove lethal to the latter if and when it is used. We just have to wait and see.

David: Umno Kedah's reason is that the outgoing MB was unable to unite the party and lacked strategies.

In all honesty, is there anyone left in Umno that has leadership qualities? Let's not even get to integrity. Same clowns, different circus.

Anonymous_1421806811: Umno should be renamed United Malays for Najib's Organisation.

Najib must either be very brave or very stupid to sack Mukhriz when Mukhriz has so many followers. Anyway, the 'Rahman' prophesy is getting more and more real.

Badut: This is a correct decision. It is pointless for Mukhriz to knock his head against the wall. Take two steps back and when the time is ripe, strike back and strike hard.

Kedah with a new MB under the same Umno government will make no difference. The same monkey business will prevail.

Now that this 'barrier' is removed from Mahathir's path, we can assume he will be the uncontrollable slayer that will strike at the demon.

Patriot of Malaysia: I can see the Pakatan Harapan state representatives wiping off the egg from their faces, and feeling like real idiots. BN reps have more class.

As for Mukhriz, your father had done everything in his power and more to get rid of your leader.

You believed that your leader would keep you, and forget you did not show your loyalty? Now you are political history.

Well Thats Fantastic: Why bother having a Parliament if the members don't use it to vote for such changes the democratic way?

This feels more like an MB installed by an autocrat or monarch. Who actually made the choice?

Kawak: In politics, most leaders at all levels of the government take good care of their self-interest rather the rakyat at large. This is the ugly truth.

Hang Babeuf: 'Mukhriz steps down, Bashah new Kedah MB.' Pays the price for his father's continuing and adamant 'recalcitrant' defiance of the Emperor Najib, who diddles while Putrajaya crumbles.

Sinan Belawan: That parting shot (about Bashah dozing off) was totally unnecessary. Bashah may have appeared to be dozing off but he was probably strategisng the exit of Mukhriz.
