Pro-Umno portal MyKMU has slammed Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin for re-tweeting an article about a Youth Parliament member who proposed that the use of marijuana be decriminalised in Malaysia.
In a posting yesterday, the portal labelled the minister's action in re-tweeting the article as "shocking" and warned that the act may be seen as Khairy tacitly approving of the idea.
"A re-tweet without any comments can be seen as endorsement and agreement (to the idea) by the youth and sports minister," read the post.
The post which included a screen capture of a Malaysiakini article reporting Khairy's re-tweet also poked fun at the minister by proposing that instead of promoting fitness as he is doing now, he could start promoting ganja use as well.
"After 'Fit Malaysia', Khairy can create a new programme called 'Mat Pit Malaysia'," sniped the portal
Yesterday, Youth Parliament representative from Selangor Muhamad Ridhwan, was reported to have proposed the decriminalisation of marijuana, stating that there are youths who do not consider it a drug.
He said this while debating a motion on improving the country's drug laws.
"Ganja is not a drug […] I am merely expressing the opinion of youths that I meet at the grassroots," Muhamad Ridhwan Muhamad Rosli was quoted as saying by The Star .
Noting that some TPPA (Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement) partners like Australia and the US had already decriminalised marijuana use, Ridhwan stressed that he was not advocating for the legalisation of marijuana but merely wanted it to be regulated.
The original Star report was re-tweeted by Khairy.
The Youth Parliament is an initiative of the Youth and Sports Ministry started under the current minister's tenure.
