The issue of Orang Asli reserve land is expected to be resolved by the end of this year, said Rural and Regional Development Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
He said that so far, 79,000 hectares of reserve land had been surveyed and were awaiting gazettement while 24,000 hectares had been gazetted by state governments.
“Some 26,000 hectares more will be surveyed soon, half of it is already being done (surveyed)," he told reporters after attending a gathering with the Orang Asli community from around the Bera parliamentary constituency today.
Ismail Sabri said after the survey process was completed, it would facilitate the state governments in the gazetting process and was expected to benefit 220,000 Orang Asli.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the government had allocated RM300 million this year for the development of basic infrastructure for the Orang Asli
At the same time, he also announced an allocation of RM250,000 to build a new football field and a pavilion for use by the Orang Asli around Bukit Rok in Bera (which is his constituency).
