Revive communism? But it’s long dead and buried

YOURSAY | ‘But what about communist China investing in 1MDB rescue plans?’

Ironic for police to stop Marxism class, says Ideas

JD Lovrenciear: A course on Marxism is no-go. It’s communism. But what about communist China investing in 1MDB rescue plans? That seems to be okay?

Ace: Revive communism? Give us a break. Communism is long dead and buried. Even China and Russia are more capitalist than many capitalist countries.

Claims that some organisation is trying to revive it is like saying that someone is trying to revive Hang Tuah from his remains from the grave. Who is the inspector-general of police (IGP) trying to fool?

6th Generation Immigrant: One senses that the Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM), Marxism and communism issues are just red herrings for misinformation and to be used as indirect comparisons so the present government can then draw parallels to quote differences of ‘what they are supposedly not’.

Kit P: Yes, one of the most damning objections to Marxism and communism in the 20th Century was the way the communist state tried to impose the ‘Thought Police’, suppressing by brute force any ideas contrary to the state ideology.

It is ironic that the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) are resorting to ‘Thought Policing’ in trying to suppress what it considers a Marxist meeting.

LEF: Marxism equals misery? Think-tank Ideas CEO Wan Saiful Wan Jan needs to be challenged on this statement.

Any progressive ideology will find itself absorbed into the many political systems and structures throughout human history.

I would take it as in the present day, it would be more factual to say that crony capitalism practiced globally, with rules written by the rich and influential, has successfully led to more misery for the many in the first, second and third worlds.

What's the difference between attending a course and picking up a book(s) on Karl Marx and Marxism and communism and capitalism and cronyism and socialism, etc, in the local bookstores?

Peter Kandiah: Alas, again I say, I can't just be able make out our police force. This is terribly mind-boggling.

Several high ranking officers, including the IGP, all have law and other degrees. But what do they actually practice?

Baiyuensheng: If the country is so worried about communism, Malaysia should reject Laos and Vietnam, which are communist countries, from being members of Asean.

And also please don’t give free visas to the communist Chinese.

IGP targets PSM event for attempting to 'revive communism'

Kingfisher: The chief police officer of the nation seems really serious about preventing the revival of communist ideals in our beloved country. This is to be applauded.

However, in this day and age such ideals have become almost benign and the giant communist states of the past are more commonly reputed currently as being led by autocrats with a serious capitalist bias.

Ideas for a more equitable distribution of development and wealth and dissent of ordinary people against the oppression of a select group/caste should not be misconstrued.

Going by our experience in the past 30 years we should be wary about the dominance of intolerance against the poor and the promotion and protection of elites. This ‘elitism’ influence has the potential of undermining democracy in favour of dictatorship.

Nil: IGP, attend the so-called Marxism course first before making your accusations and judgments. It may yet open your eyes and mind and refresh your soul.

Anticonmen: When you pass laws to remove or restrict freedom of speech and silence the people with the Sedition Act and put fear and even victimise them for criticising instead of defending the right of a person to criticise, is this not communism?

When will you understand that freedom of speech as espoused in the original 1957 constitution and the right to criticise wrongs by a government is an important check and balance against abuse of power and dictatorship?

Drngsc: Of course you are right, PSM central committee member S Arutchelvan., but these people cannot see the difference or do not wish to see the difference.

They wish to bash any organisation that is not Umno or Umno-like. That is the duty of ‘Twitter Cop’.

Might Thor: Who paid for the out-of-court settlement of RM200,000 to PSM for wrong arrest and false imprisonment? Taxpayers, right?

Should this happen again, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar must be made to personally pay for it and a demotion/termination be considered.

Anonymous_1390110279: 1MDB sold our power plants to China, which will probably build the high-speed rail system. They are communists. If you are in business with them, you are supporting communism.

Speaking Sense: Still chasing after mangosteens ? Maybe we should close down the Chinese embassy or ban all trade with communist regimes?

Or arrest leaders who negotiate with foreign communist countries, or sell valuable national assets to them, like 1MDB?
