Will Dr M ditch 'Save Umno' for 'Save Malaysia'?

YOURSAY | ‘Mahathir has not changed despite time, age and hindsight.’

Mahathir, Kit Siang meet on 'national issues'

6th Generation Immigrant: Most Malaysians believed then that former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad was a shrewd autocrat, which was short of a dictator.

A dictator uses people and groups. Dictators never change - they become more skilful with time. Indeed, Mahathir has not changed despite time, age and hindsight, based on his latest statements and a small spat with former deputy Musa Hitam.

Mahathir is still an active political animal that bites. Mahathir is still "always right" and accepts no criticism, even from retired peers. Mahathir has no regrets in today's Malaysian failures and abuses.

Malaysians can all use Mahathir if we must to save Malaysia for now, but he must be kept on a very tight leash as he still has his shrewd wants, dislikes and hatred hidden deep down in him.

One must never ever forget: it was his scheming in his era that has led to today's impasse. His is shoring up his legacy through his participation. He may even sulk if he does not make it as No 1 in the Save Malaysia campaign.

Otak-Otak: It's crystal clear that Mahathir, now running out of choices, needs help from the respectable and principled man whom he had jailed before.

If only Malaysians do not see all things from racial angle, I believe DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang, if given the opportunity, would be able to bring Malaysia out of this huge mess we have been dragged into.

A word of caution to Uncle Lim: be very careful with Mahathir, he has still yet to gain any trust from us. Karma is apparently working on Mahathir.

Notsoshiningarmour: This is the right direction; the nation is threatened not just by an individual, it is being threatened by rogues.

This honestly is akin to fighting something like IS within the country, and all parties and every Malaysian must come together to achieve the aim.

Those who don't are really traitors. So if you want to charge anyone for treason, look no further - they are here and they are the ones calling all and sundry "traitors".

So to the real traitors, beware, loyal Malaysians will defend this nation and we are coming.

Anon1: ‘Save Malaysia’ must be given support just to get rid of this kleptocrat terrorising and bankrupting the nation.

After that, the little Napoleons in charge of the various government institutions should be given the boot.

Thereafter, Parliament should be dissolved and fresh elections held with the order that the first law to be tabled and passed by the new Parliament shall be the National Stupidity Act which shall make it a crime for any government minister, official, NGO, society, or organisation member to utter any official remark/statement which will cause right-thinking members of society to shake their head in disbelief and/or roll with laughter.

This new law must be given retrospective effect.

Legit: The country is at a critical moment and going down fast to becoming a basket case and a dictatorial regime. What Mahathir, Kit Siang, former law minister Zaid Ibrahim and others are doing should be supported by the people if they love this country.

It’s time for all right-minded Malaysians to come together and bury Najib and his gang for good or else this gang will take the country to the cleaners.

As claimed by some of the writers in this Malaysiakini forum, nobody is that stupid to allow Mahathir or anybody else to play their own tricks after the current regime is kicked out.

We have a big task here and let us all stay focused.

Anonymous 759201436321741: Wow, can you believe it? But as they say, seeing is believing.

Lim, the man who was alleged to have urinated on a flagpole at the height of the May 13 incident controversy, is now on kissing terms with Dr Mahathir, his one-time nemesis.

But then again, politics is the art of the possible. Still, I take my hat off to both gentlemen on this aspect.

In their fiery youth, they could not see eye-to-eye. Time is the greatest healer of their decades-long political feud - to unite them together to fight for a higher cause.

Progressive: Mahathir has a personal, vengeful agenda and does not care for the nation or its people. We are in this crisis all because of Mahathir - his choice of PM and his racial legacy.

Shouldn't there be a coalition on how to save the country long-term rather than how to destroy it? Getting rid of one individual will not fix the country's problem - it's more than that.

Take a look at Selangor, unlike well-managed Penang. And we want to turn this country over to these incompetent folks? If you do not know how to win an election, then you are incompetent to run the country. Period.

Doc: I really don't see Pakatan Harapan and Mahathir's faction working together to get rid of Najib and his cronies.

Firstly, Pakatan wants free and fair elections. If Mahathir allows this, BN will lose. Secondly, Pakatan wants BN to treat the opposition as equals. If Mahathir allows this, BN will lose.

Third, the opposition will not want to be harassed like what BN has always done. If Mahathir allows this, BN will lose.

Mahathir wants Najib out and Umno to continue with its corrupt activities but with the doctors' faction in place. The opposition will not agree on this. Thus, I don't really see Mahathir and Pakatan working together.

Franco: This is a good development. Let's focus on one thing at a time and cross each bridge as we go along.

The primary agenda is to rid Najib and his merry men from becoming the next dictator or worse still, the next emperor. So working together for a primary cause is fine.

I am certain once Najib is kicked out, Mahathir will be back to his old tricks and paint a negative picture of DAP and the opposition.

Like the saying goes, there are no permanent enemies and permanent friends in politics, or something along those lines.
