AC/DC have postponed their upcoming US tour dates after doctors advised frontman Brian Johnson to stop touring to save his hearing, the rock group announced.
The band was due to perform at 10 more venues during the current US leg of their ‘Rock or Bust’ world tour, including in Atlanta today. The tour is set to move on later to Europe, with concerts in Portugal, Germany, Britain and Denmark among other countries.
“AC/DC's lead singer, Brian Johnson, has been advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss,” the band said in a statement on their website dated yesterday, adding the band will instead perform later in the year, “likely with a guest vocalist”.
The risk to the 68-year-old’s hearing comes after a series of setbacks for the band.
Last year, the veteran Australian rockers toured without a founding member, guitarist Malcolm Young, who was diagnosed with dementia in 2014.
That same year, the band also lost long-time drummer Phil Rudd after he pleaded guilty to the charges of possession of drugs and threatening to kill in New Zealand.
Rudd has been replaced by Chris Slade in the current world tour.
