Kijal assemblyperson Ahmad Said, who proposed a motion of no confidence against Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman yesterday, turned out to be alone in his cause.

According to The Star today, 16 out of 17 Terengganu BN assemblypersons have signed a pledged today to support the existing state government led by Ahmad Razif, including the latter himself.

This leaves Ahmad Razif's predecessor, Ahmad Said, the only BN assemblyperson who did not sign the pledge.

The pledge was reportedly signed after the state legislative assembly's proceedings of the day, which is also the final day for the current sitting.

The Star quoted Ahmad Razif as saying in his winding-up speech that he will fight any challenge to the post or BN's hold on the state.

I will fight on for the people and it is my promise that I will not let you down.

For those who have thoughts of ousting me and toppling the state government, please listen carefully: I will not bow down.

I will continue to fight despite facing mounting hurdles, and I will not give up,” he reportedly said.

Umno currently holds 17 seats in the 32-seat state assembly, edging out the state opposition by a mere two seats.

Of the 15 opposition-held seats, PAS holds 14 seats while PKR has one.

However, PAS had previously said that it would stay out of the tussle between Ahmad Said and Ahmad Razif.

Ahmad Said was replaced by Ahmad Razif as menteri besar in 2014, prompting him and two other assemblypersons to quit the party.

The crisis lasted only two days following intervention from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, who apologised for sacking him so close to his daughter's wedding.

However, Ahmad Said said he is still sore over the episode and that he felt humiliated.

He filed the no-confidence motion yesterday, but it was rejected by the House Speaker Mohd Zubir Embong.

Despite this, Ahmad Said had refused to back down.
