Umno to decide Muhyiddin, Mukhriz's fate on March 25

The Umno supreme council will reportedly decide on the fates of suspended deputy president Muhyiddin Yassin and other rebels when it meets on March 25.

This is according to an article in Chinese-language newspaper Sin Chew Daily , stating that Muhyiddin's fate will be decided during the party's coming monthly meeting.

The daily quoted Umno executive secretary Ab Rauf Yusoh, who confirmed that the agenda for this month's meeting included discussion on what action will be taken against them.

However, whether or not they will be expelled, will only be discussed in the coming meeting, the daily reported.

Both Muhyiddin and ex-Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir got into hot water for the second time when they signed the Citizens' Declaration calling for Umno president Najib Abdul Razak to be removed as prime minister by all legal means, and the implementation of democratic reforms.

They initially got into trouble after they started to criticise Najib over 1MDB and RM2.6 billion donation scandals.

Muhyiddin was sacked as deputy prime minister for his vocal criticism and later suspended as Umno deputy president, allegedly for not fulfilling his duties as Najib's deputy.

Mukhriz was removed as Kedah menteri after a pro-Najib Umno faction publicly declared a loss of confidence in him, driving Mukhriz to resign and be replaced as state Umno chief.

Their participation in the declaration has garnered more brickbats from party stalwarts and Najib loyalists.

Several groups have already urged that they be culled from the party.

March 25 will be the D-Day for both.
