Speaker rejects no-confidence motion against AG
Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia has rejected the no-confidence motion submitted against attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.
Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, who submitted the motion on Feb 25, said it was deemed unconstitutional.
“We will study the reply to see if it is truly rejected because of this or for other reasons,” Wan Azizah told reporters at the Parliament lobby.
Among other reasons, the action was taken because Apandi failed to file charges against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in relation to the RM2.6 billion donation that was deposited into his personal account.
The no-confidence motion against the AG was moved under Article 14 (3) of the Federal Constitution and Article 27 (1), (2) and (3) of the Dewan Rakyat Standing Orders.
In Januari, Apandi had cleared Najib of any wrongdoing with regard to the RM2.6 billion and SRC International funds also allegedly deposited into his account.
The AG had said that his office will return the investigation papers to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and ordered all investigations into the matter closed with no indictments against the prime minister.
Yesterday, PKR MP and ADUN coordination bureau chief, Johari Abdul, confirmed that the no-confidence motion against the AG had been submitted to the Dewan Rakyat speaker.
The motion was moved in a letter from Opposition Leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail dated Feb 25, and was received by the speaker's office on Feb 26.
Meanwhile, when asked if she will move for a motion of no-confidence against the PM, Wan Azizah said that she planned to do so, but wants to focus on the Sarawak state election first for now.
"We can always submit motions, but the power is in their hands. But for now, we will give focus to the Sarawak state election," she said.
