Defence Minister Hishamuddin Hussein is underestimating the power of the people, said PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli.

"I think it is fine if Hishammuddin thinks it's not going to change anything. It means he is underestimating the public," he told a press conference in the parliament lobby.

Hishamuddin had earlier said the March 27 gathering against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, will be "just another rally".

The Umno vice-president said there have been many rallies and predictions of doom, but none materialised.

Disagreeing, Rafizi said rallies play a significant role in creating political awareness.

He pointed out how many of the young opposition MPs at present had their political awareness kindled by the 1998 Reformasi movement.

Likewise, he believed, rallies against Najib now will have a similar effect.

Rafizi said the rallies will likely snowball into a big problem for the government.

But even if turnout is poor, the PKR vice-president said rallies against Najib will still go on.

"We will continue to do even if there is just 100 people," he said.

Besides the March 27 gathering, Pakatan Harapan is also organising a series of rallies against Najib as part of the Save Malaysia movement.

The first one will be held in Ampang on March 28, and will feature former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
