Wait for MACC's probe, says Hadi on Lim's bungalow

All parties should reserve judgement on Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng until the MACC has completed its probe, said PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang.

He was referring to the controversy surrounding Lim’s purchase of a bungalow and the sale of state-owned land in Taman Manggis to a private developer.

“We should not jump to conclusions; let’s wait for the outcome of the MACC's investigation,” said the PAS leader to the media at the Parliament lobby today.

Tasek Gelugor MP Shabudin Yahaya had accused Lim of purchasing a two-storey bungalow along Jalan Pinhorn at below market value. The Penang chief minister paid RM2.8 million for it.

Shabudin had also alleged that Lim’s purchase of the bungalow in 2015 was connected to the Penang state administration’s 2012 Taman Manggis land deal.

Lim had denied these accusations and said that he was ready to respond to Shabudin’s allegations in Parliament.

The DAP secretary-general had also requested Shabudin to repeat his claims outside Parliament, so Lim could sue him to clear his name.

Smear campaign

Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail opined that the RM2.6 billion donation and 1MDB scandals involving Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, were more serious compared to the allegations against Lim.

She said these allegations were part of a smear campaign against the Penang chief minister.

The moment you question the RM2.6 billion or 1MDB, you will face problems,” said Wan Azizah to reporters outside Parliament today.

The PKR president observed that former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin were targeted when they spoke up on these issues.

She added those who opposed the government on these matters could be removed from office.

Wan Azizah, like PAS leader Hadi Awang, urged all parties to wait for the conclusion of MACC’s investigation into allegations against Lim, before passing judgment.
