Bank Negara Malaysia governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz has refused to be dragged into the current political feud in the nation.

"All I can say is I am not going to be drawn into making a political statement. I am not going to allow BNM to be drawn into politics," she told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.

Zeti was responding to a question on former deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin referring to her in an interview with Malaysiakini .

Muhyiddin claimed Zeti informed him of 1MDB's assets in BSI Bank.

Zeti today said she could not recall if she told Muhyiddin about this.

She said this is because she met Muhyiddin, who was also education minister, on numerous occasions when the latter was still a member of the cabinet.

"I never had a meeting specifically to discuss that.

"We had many interactions and engagements with him. I was part of his cabinet committee on living cost and we are establishing a business school... As a result, we have to go the Ministry of Education to get approval, including his approval," she elaborated.

Zeti said she did not bring along documents related to 1MDB's US$1.103 billion when she met the former number two.

"In that sense, if I did discuss with him, it was more broadly on what was happening and that was quite some time ago, and perhaps even at that stage I don't have that kind of details you are mentioning," she added

In an exclusive interview with Malaysiakini , Muhyiddin claimed Zeti told him that the US$1.103 billion, which 1MDB parked in Cayman Islands, did not go into BSI Bank.

No more comments

Muhyiddin and other detractors of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak have repeatedly used the allegations surrounding 1MDB as ammunition.

Najib and 1MDB have described the allegations as being part of a plot to topple the prime minister.

When pressed further if she is denying or admitting Muhyiddin's statement, she paused for a while before saying that she did speak with the former deputy prime minister, but in general manner.

"First of all, there was a discussion, but I don't recall the details.

"Secondly, Bank Negara had submitted the conclusion of its investigation to the Attorney-General's Chambers and the latter had concluded that no further action would be taken.

"As a result, we cannot make any more comments so far as 1MDB is concerned," she said.
