Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali has likened embattled Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng to a pot calling the kettle black in his refusal to go on leave or step down while the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigates his Jalan Pinhorn bungalow purchase.
"Lim must show consistency in fighting corruption or abuse of power. His refusal to take leave or step down only made him look like some people who don't do as they say or are hypocritical.
“Is Lim like the proverbial pot calling the kettle black?" asked Ibrahim in a statement.
"Lim, be a man by taking leave from your post. Let MACC investigate the matter exhaustively and when the probe has ended, if you are found clean, you will return as chief minister and a hero," said the Perkasa chief.
The Malay rights NGO chief said it is appropriate for Lim to go on leave until investigations are over to show that he is serious in being transparent, accountable and is against corruption.
Ibrahim's call for Lim to go on leave echoed suggestions from others that Lim consider doing the same and to walk his own talk on fighting corruption.
He said that as a senior political leader, Lim should set a good example, urging the DAP secretary-general to appoint someone to be acting chief minister during his leave.
Ibrahim said that in the past whenever issues of corruption surfaced, Lim has urged others to take leave or resign.
So now his time has come to (go on leave or resign), he added.
The chief minister is being investigated by the MACC over Umno lawmaker Shabudin Yahya's allegations over his RM2.8 million bungalow at Jalan Pinhorn in George Town was purportedly purchased at below market price.
Shabudin also claims the purchase is linked to a private company buying over state land, allegedly also below what it is actually worth.
Several parties have asked Lim to take leave while investigations are ongoing, but he said that he has no reason to do so as these are just allegations.
He contended it is ridiculous for him to step down over each and every allegation.
