Describing it as "Thursday’s humour", a pro-Umno portal noted that more Malaysians supported the campaign to regulate the vape industry as opposed to the Citizens' Declaration.

In an article published today, MyKMU. ne t cited the two online petitions.

The 'Save Malayia' campaign has garnered 46,000 signatures thus far, while the campaign to save the vape industry has 49,000 supporters.

"Does this mean Malaysians are not patriotic? No. It has nothing to do with patriotism at all.

"It is about who launches the petition and for what reasons the campaign is launched, as well as to what extent it affects their (Malaysians) lives," said the portal.

According to MyKMU , this proved that the Citizens' Declaration has failed.

"This shows that Malaysians are not interested in such petitions... If the facts are included as to how such online campaigns are easily manipulated, its integrity would be totally destroyed.

"But if desperate, all sorts of things can be done to create the impression of having support. Anyone who is sane would not waste their time with such unbeneficial things," it added.

On March 5, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad inked the Citizens’ Declaration together with allies as well as former political rivals from opposition parties and NGO leaders critical of him.

The objective of the declaration is to remove Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Apart from courting flak from ruling politicians, the declaration was also criticised by certain civil society leaders due to Mahathir’s involvement.

Mahathir's son and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz later claimed that the declaration sought to replace Najib with another Umno leader as prime minister.

Yesterday, Mahathir and two others also filed a legal suit against Najib.

The prime minister has denied any wrongdoing, and blamed the corruption allegations against him on an attempt to oust him from power.
