Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he is willing to meet up with Opposition leader Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, but only to discuss about toppling Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

"I haven't (met with Wan Azizah). If she wants, yes, I am open to it. For only one purpose, to topple Najib.

"Today, our struggle is limited to one thing only - to bring down Najib. To do so, I will work with anyone, including with (DAP supremo Lim) Kit Siang," he said at press conference in Putrajaya today.

Asked if he is willing to meet up with the family of his former deputy, Anwar Ibrahim, Mahathir was coy.

"That we shall have to see," he said.

Prior to this, former Batu Kawan Umno vice-chief Khairuddin Abu Hassan claimed that Anwar wanted him to play peacemaker between Mahathir and the jailed de facto PKR leader's family.

Khairuddin claimed the ex-DPM told him to do so when he met Anwar, who is his cousin, briefly during his short incarceration at Sungai Buloh Prison.

He added that the planned reconciliation could not happen as Wan Azizah was not ready to meet Mahathir.

Mahathir fired Anwar in 1998 and was seen by some to be responsible for the plethora of charges against the ex-DPM afterwards which led to his conviction and jailing. The good doctor has denied persecuting his former deputy.
