'Four Corners' a one-sided documentary report, says Wisma Putra

Wisma Putra has expressed regret over a one-sided documentary report by Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) 'Four Corners', attacking the accountability of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the government system.

In a statement today, the Foreign Ministry said while the government's many official statements on the allegations were produced to clarify the issues, it seemed the clarifications had been conveniently ignored and resulted in biased reporting.

"It is indeed regretful the reporting made in the programme has been one-sided where it attacked the accountability of the prime minister of Malaysia and the Malaysian government system," it said.

On the allegation against Najib on 1MDB, Wisma Putra said it was indeed important to note the case was still with the Malaysian Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and the final report was expected to be provided to the Malaysian Parliament soon.

In responding to the temporary detention of the ABC newsmen in Kuching, Wisma Putra said it was important to note that despite police instructions to the two media personnel not to cross the security lines, they still refused to adhere to the instructions.

They barged, crossing the lines and caused them to be detained, it said.

"As such, while the government acknowledges the freedom of expression and press, the members of the media, on their part are expected to act professionally and discharge their duties undertaking full responsibility," it added.
